Vase des Tuileries VI – Juan Garaizabal, 2015. 168 x 98 x 98 cm
(A real-scale reproduction of the disappeared Vase of the Tuileries Palace, Paris). Hand forged steel, recycled pine wood and glass.
Juan Garaizabal and his urban memories bring back to life landmark buildings that disappeared in different cities around the world.
As part of the Urban Memory Paris project, Garaizabal uses photographs of monumental vases from the now-defunct Tuileries Palace.
He uses them to create working models (patterns) at different scales with which he produces sculptures that recreate the traces of the lost elements for their subsequent site-specific placement.
